Annelle Allen Earles COLUMBIA - Annelle Allen Earles, beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on April 23, 2016. Mrs. Earles' family was blessed to have her with them for over 100 years. A strong and independent woman, she was the rock on which her family leaned and the glue that held them together. Her home was the central point around which the lives of her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren revolved. She was always present to lend wise and loving guidance to her family, who all remained in Columbia. Born in 1915 in Latta, SC, she told stories of a simple, happy life in a small town. Her family moved to Columbia when she was a child. She and her two brothers were raised in Columbia by a hard working father, Albert Sydney Allen and loving, refined mother, Nellie Hayes Allen. She attended Limestone College and returned to Columbia to work. She met and married Everett Donald Earles in the 1940's. A simple wedding ceremony was held at her parent's house on Kinard Court. Mrs. Earles worked a variety of jobs as she raised her three sons. She retired in 1987 from the S. C. Methodist Center, where she had worked for 24 years as bookkeeper and building manager. During this time she served on the Board of Directors of the S. C. Methodist Conference Credit Union. Mrs. Earles is predeceased by her husband, brothers, Harry Lee Allen and Dr. Albert Sydney Allen, II, as well as her oldest son Donald Wayne Earles. She is survived her sons, Duane A. Earles and Charles A. Earles, her grandchildren, Allen Earles (Kay), Alice Wofford (Chris), Betsy Earles, Marsha Earles, Matthew Earles, Amanda Smyrl (Michael), Eric Earles and Elizabeth Earles and four great-grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held at the Magnolia Cemetery in Latta, SC. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the SCOA Cares Foundation, PO Box 2046, West Columbia, SC 29171.
