Edward Bertling, 67, of 2149 Bancroft Drive died today in Mercy Hospital. Funeral Mass will be Saturday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with burial at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday in Donohue-Lensing funeral home. Memorial donations will go to the American Lung Association and Mercy Hospital Foundation.
He was born April 5, 1923, in Cascade, son of William and Cora Johnson Bertling. He married Alice Brady Aug. 16, 1951, in Cascade. For the past eight years, he had been building coordinator at the Newman Catholic Student Center. Before that he was Forman with Frantz Construction for more than 15 years. He served ni the Infantry during World War II.
He was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church and American Legion Post 17.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Dave of Mount Pleasant, Gary of Coralville and Roger of St. Louis; one daughter, Colleen (Mrs. Tom) Hamer of West Liberty; two sisters, Rose Jean of Chicago and K+Helen Miller of Cascade; four brothers, Harold, Ralph an dMelton of Cascade and Robert of Cedar Rapids, and seven grandchildren.
His parents and a brother died earlier.
