CASCADE, Iowa - Helen Kathryn Miller, 80, of 204 Garfield NW, Cascade, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at home, surrounded by her family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating and the Rev. Daniel Krapfl concelebrating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Nov. 8, 1924, in Cascade, daughter of William and Cora (Johnson) Bertling. She received her education at St. Mary's School, Cascade.

She married Leo Miller on June 27, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cascade; he died on Sept. 23, 1974. They farmed in the rural Cascade area. Later, Helen was a cook for Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade.

She was a member of St. Matthias Parish, Cascade.

Helen was an avid card player and enjoyed quilting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are seven children, the Rev. Jim Miller, of Hampton, Judith (Jack) Boyle and Mary Kay (Jim) Larkin, both of Bernard, Bette (Don) Schultz, of Dubuque, Ron (Donna) Miller and Terry (Lynda) Miller, both of Cascade, and Edwin (Lina) Miller, of Independence, Kan.; 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Bertling, of Cascade, and Milton (Dolores) Bertling, of Monticello; a sister, Roslyn Kean, of Roselle, Ill.; and three sisters-in-law, Judith Bertling, of Cedar Rapids, and Clara Strang and Leona (Ray) Manternach, both of Cascade.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and six brothers, Edward, Ralph, Bob, Bill and Herbert and Clarence in infancy.

A Helen Kathryn Miller Memorial Fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque for all the wonderful care and support given to Helen and our family, with a special thanks to Sheila and Amy.
