MICHAEL FRANCIS ACRE, 93, of Hagerstown, MD passed away June 30, 2018 at his home. Born September 14, 1924 in Frostburg, MD to the late Frank and Sarah (Santore) Acre.

Michael was a proud veteran of the US Army during WWII, earning the European Theatre Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, Battle Stars and Good Conduct Medal. He served in the 278th Field Artillery under General Patton’s 3rd US Army. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, involved in the Holy Name Society, and associated with American Little League, Colt League, and Pony League. Michael worked for Mack Truck for 23 years, retiring in 1985, and was a member of VFW Post 1936 as well as the American Legion Post 42.

He is survived by his children, Terry M. Acre, James D. Acre, Carolyn Wollard, and Debra Ward; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; sisters Rosemary Burgern, and Esther Wampler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary Catholic Church,Hagerstown, MD.. Interment immediately following with Military Honors provided by the Joint Veterans Council of Washington County, will be held in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown. Arrangements by the Harman Funeral Home.
