Charles was the son of Zachariah Goolsby and Catherine Elizabeth Cooper. He was married twice. His first marriage was to Emily Amanda Anthony-Scott. They had three children together--James, Frances and Samuel. His second marriage was to Missouri Ann Turner. They had six children together--Martha, John Franklin, Susie, Lillie, Louella, and Mary Etta. Charles was also a soldier for the Confederacy during the Civil War.
