Jacob Rothrock was the eldest of eleven known children of Peter Rothrock (1746-1829) and Catharine Mueller (became Miller) Rothrock (1749-1803), who married on 09 Oct 1770 at York, York County, Pennsylvania. The family moved to the Moravian settlement of Friedberg, then in Surry (area became Stokes County and then Forsyth County) County, North Carolina in 1771.
Jacob married Esther Zeigler (Ziegler) (1777-1845) on 05 Nov 1799 at Friedberg, Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Jacob and Esther were the parents of nine known children, five boys and four girls, namely:
1. Catherine Rothrock (1802-1803)
2. Johann/Johannes Jonas Rothrock (1804-1805)
3. Maria Magdalena Rothrock Thomas (1806-p1890)
4. Jacob (John) Rothrock (1808-1835)
5. Samuel Rothrock (1809-1894)
6. Christina Rothrock Beckerdite (1813-1853)
7. Ludwig (Louis) P. Rothrock (1814-1886)
8. Salome Rothrock Peeler (1816-1910)
9. Adam Bennett Rothrock (1820-1891)
The burial locations for two of the nine known children are not known: Maria Magdalena Rothrock (1806-past 1890) who married Hezekiah Thomas (1805-1890) and lived in Forsyth County, North Carolina; and Jacob (sometimes called John?) Rothrock (1808-1835) who moved to Indiana (Bartholomew County?) and died there.
