Aubrey Childs, 97 of Fairfield passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018. He was born January 13, 1921 in Fairfield, Texas to Robert Clay Childs and Willie May Weaver Childs. Aubrey married Clara Marie Winkler on February 5, 1946 in Jacksonville, Texas. He owned and operated Phillip 66 Service Station in Fairfield for many years. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. He also enjoyed gardening, farming and agriculture.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Willie May Childs; siblings, Bobbie Noell Blakely, Lottie May Childs and Doris Wayne Daniel. He is survived by his wife, Clara Childs of Fairfield; children, Alice May Childs Waldrop of Fairfield and Robert Clayton Childs of Teague; grandchildren, Misty Marie Harrelson and husband Robert, Jennifer Leigh Childs, Robert Blake Childs, Rachel DeAnne Waldrop and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 27th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Fairfield. Service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, June 28th at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Fairfield Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Fryer, Sid Fryer, Bill Noland, Tim Walthall, David Bonner and James McCabe.
