CHARLES HARLAN MORTIMORE and BERTHA ELLEN BRIDGFORD
CHARLES HARLAN MORTIMORE was born January 16, 1881 in Hamburg, Fremont County, Iowa, and died November 03, 1973 in Stockville, Frontier County,Nebraska. He was married on February 05, 1901 to BERTHA ELLEN BRIDGFORD born September 16, 1883 in Fremont County, Iowa, daughter of ELI BRIDGFORD and SARAH JANE REDD. Charles and Bertha came to Nebraska in 1907 and to Frontier County about 1914 and rented farm land close to the Bridgford , homestead ; which is located twelve miles North of Indianola, in Frontier County; they lived here in a sod house until 1918 when they bought their dry land farm 7 miles South of Stockville. This property had no house on it , so they moved a house in with the help of a steam engine. At this time they purchased a Maxwell, it was their first automobile. The crops raised on this farm were; corn, oats, barley, wheat and milo. Charles was the first to raise milo in his region, bringing the seed to Frontier County from Kansas. The animals raised for the families use were cows, hogs, chickens, ducks and geese. Horses and Mules were raised and used to pull their farm machinery.. Electricity was installed in the last years that they lived on the farm.
To this union were born eight children.

March 17, 1985, McCook, Red Willow County, Nebraska He married EVA MAE CALLEN May 03, 1922 in Stockville, Frontier County, Nebraska; the daughter of PATRICK CALLEN and CATHERINE BEHNKE from Frontier County, Nebraska and lived close to the Mortimore's. They are both buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Indianola, Red Willow County, Nebraska.
#2. IONA MABLE MORTIMORE, b. December 27, 1903, Hamburg, Iowa; d. June 01, 1990, Holdrege, Phelps County, Nebraska. She married JOHN JAY (JACK)
CALLAN January 30, 1922 in Stockville, Frontier County, Nebraska, son of
PATRICK CALLEN and CATHERINE BEHNKE. Both are buried in Arbor Cemetery,
Stockville, Nebraska. Jack and Mable owned a cafe and pool hall in Stockville

February 22, 1996, Alexander, Virgina. She married HARRY (BOOTS) PATRICK

Kansas.

The family moved into the town of Stockville in 1945, where they bought a
grocery store across the street from the court house. They kept busy with
their garden and did some fishing as a pastime. They acquired many
properties in Stockville over the years. Their older children were educated in the Freedom School; Ervin, ALICE (Tiny), Charlotte (Bill) and Veda attended school in Stockville, and obtained their high school diploma's.
Charles and Bertha are both buried in Arbor Cemetery, Stockville, Frontier
County, Nebraska. The only member of this family still remaining in Frontier County
