Sylvester C. Loveless Dies;
Union Captain in Civil War, Lafayette Veteran, Former Business man, expires in Texas, at age of 85-was sole known survivor of Army train Wreck at Culver Station 63 Years ago-two sons survive him.

Captain Sylvester C. Loveless, for many years identified with the commercial life of Lafayette died at 8:o'clock Tuesday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.E,. Bradbury in Weslaco, Tex. Where he was visiting, according to word received by his niece, Mrs. Stowe Masterson, 1315 Tippecanoe Street. Death was due to infirmities and heart trouble. He was 85 years old. The son of John E. and Sallie Loveless, he was born at Prairieville, near Clarks Hill, December 29, 1842. When the Civil War broke out, he enlisted in the Seventy second Indiana volunteers for three months service, and later enlisted in the 116th Indiana volunteer infantry, in which regiment he became a captain.

SURVIVOR OF WRECK
Captain Loveless was the last known survivor of the fatal railroad wreck that occurred at Culver Station, near here, October 31, 1864, when a number of Union soldiers were killed.
For many years he was employed at the Baltimore clothing store. He later helped to organize the Hub Clothing Co., and was one of the original members of that firm. Giving up the clothing business, Mr. Loveless for several years was employed as a salesman by the George R. Durgan Music Company. He was a member of the G.A.R, of Lafayette Lodge No. 123, F. and A.M., Odd Fellows Lodge No. 15, the encampment, and the Retail Clerks' Union. He attended the Methodist Church.

LEAVES TWO SONS
Captain Loveless was twice married, His first wife was Nannie Hazelrigg, daughter of Colonel Hazelrigg. She died a number of years ago. One son, Fred H. Loveless, of Chicago, was born to this union. Later, he married Miss Mary Waldron of Russellville, who died eight years ago. Four children were born to the union, but Guy Loveless, of Lansing, Mich., is the only survivor. There are also three Grandchildren. Mr. Loveless last resided at the St. Nicholas Hotel.

The body will be brought to Lafayette, and will be taken to the home of his niece, Mrs. Stowe Masterson, 1315 Tippecanoe Street, where friends may call.
