Ethel Hampton Tennyson, 85, of Amarillo died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Alan Burkhalter, pastor of Chaparral Hills Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the Stratford Cemetery. Mrs. Tennyson was born June 19, 1917, in McAlester, Okla., to J.L. and Ida Johnson. She graduated from Amarillo High School. She had worked as an Avon representative where she was recognized for outstanding sales. In 1982 she was awarded Mother of the Year at First Baptist Church in Stratford. She had also worked for many years in the nursery at First Baptist Church in Stratford. She had been the director for Senior Citizens at Stratford. She was a member of Chaparral Hills Baptist Church. She married Grover B Hampton on Nov. 4, 1936. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1968. She later married Charles "Ray" Tennyson on June 5, 1988. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2002. Survivors include two sons, Ralph L Hampton of Kerrick and Larry Hampton of Dumas; a stepson, Charles R. Tennyson Jr. of Indianapolis; three daughters, Sharon Wiebe, Lela Hager and husband Ronnie and Margie Huff, all of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Fields of Southlake; a sister, Cora Ward of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Chaparral Hills Baptist Church, 3300 W. Cherry, Amarillo, TX 79108. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 16, 2003
