Sept. 20, 1862 - The Chattanooga Daily Rebel (TN.)
Youthful Martyrs-
Among the young men who fell in the recent battles are the sons of three Methodist ministers, T.L. Capers, son of the late Bishop Capers; H. A. McSwain, son of Rev. Mr. McSwain of the South Carolina Conference and Whitelord Smith, Jr. son of Rev. Dr. Smith. These young men we believe were all lately students of Wofford College, Spartenburg, Columbia (S.c.) Guardian.
birth and death dates from: Pedigree of the Capers family
by Capers, Francis Le Grand, 1853
source also relates he graduated first in his class in college in June 1860 and was killed at the second Battle of Manassas during the civil war.
Note: unknown if he is buried with his family or in one of the mass graves on the field, needs more research
