Funeral services for Jewell Daugherty, 85, of Emory were held at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Chapel Sunday, Oct. 17, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Billy Smith and Rev. David Asbill officiating. Burial was in Dougherty Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Potts, Junior Potts, Brad Daugherty, Windell Barnett, Philip Jennings, and Richard Griffin. She died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Kindred Hospital, Dallas. She was born in Rains County on Sept. 17, 1919, to Cecil McLeroy and Mattie Freeman. She married E.L. Daugherty on Sept. 26, 1941, in Celeste. She retired from E-Systems and was a housewife. She was a Baptist. She is survived by sons, Jerry Lee Daugherty and Jimmy Daugherty; daughter, Erma Dale Riggs; brother, Weaver McLeroy; sisters, Verna Barnett, Buena Jennings, Loudene Johnson, Mary Sechrist, and Pauline Tate; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995.
