Millie was born in Toledo on April 12, 1931 to John and Gretta (O'Hara) Callaghan. She gradated from Central Catholic High School and attended the University of Toledo. She was married to the love of her life, Joseph Granata, for 58 years before his death. Family and faith was at the center of Millie and Joe's life. Together they had four children, shared wonderful times with family and friends, and also together bore the grief of losing their son Kevin in the 2007 shooting at Virginia Tech.
Millie's enjoyment of meeting new people was behind her chosen work as realtor and later part time credit counselor. Whether at work or at home with family and friends, Millie believed in finding reasons to celebrate life with shared stories and laugher, whether over a game of bridge, a dinner or a party. Her sense of humor was always present and together with her faith carried her through the difficulties of life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; son, Kevin Patrick Granata; brothers, John Callaghan and James Callaghan; sisters, Eileen Callaghan, MaryJo Brenneman and Joan Walrod.
Remaining to cherish her memory are: her son, Paul (Karen) Granata; daughters, Eileen Granata and Anne (Steve) Macy; daughter-in-law, Linda Granata; grandchildren, Joe and James Granata, William (Deanna) Laney, Sean and Mara Macy, and Alex, Eric and Ellen Granata. Millie is also survived by her sister-in-law Kitty Callaghan and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Millie wished to convey to her family friends how much she loved them.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, with the Mass of the Resurrection to be held immediately following visitation at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo. Memorial donations may be directed to the Kevin P. Granata memorial fund at St. Francis De Sales High School or to the Ursuline Convent. Assisting the family with arrangements, The Urbanski Funeral Home a Life Celebration Home, 5055 Secor Road, Toledo, Ohio.
