John David Yancey, Sr., 73, of Manila died Sunday Dec. 26, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born April 8, 1937, he was the son of the late Floyd and Ditha Bray Yancey and had been a longtime Manila area resident. Mr. Yancey was a former law enforcement officer for 20 years and was a member of the 1st United Pentecostal Church in Manila. He was a painter and an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, cook and camp.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barber Maxey Yancey of the home; a son, Jimmy Darrell Yancey and wife Annette of Manila; two daughters, Jeanette Diane Lasater and husband Phillip of Manila and Jodie Dell King and husband Glen of Leachville; a sister, Shelia Brandon of Osceola; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Yancey was also preceded in death by a son, John David Yancey, Jr., and three sisters, Bertie Franks, Lila Garner and Bobbie Steinfeldt.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Wednesday Dec. 29, at the 1st United Pentecostal Church in Manila with Rev. Robert White officiating. Burial followed in the Manila cemetery under the direction of Faith Funeral Service of Manila. The Town Crier
