PASTOR JACK EDWARD MAROON, SR.

BELMONT, MS – Pastor Jack Edward Maroon, Sr., 88, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Methodist University Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee. Born October 14, 1929 in Memphis, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Pearl Adolf Maroon and Lillian Ethel Williford Maroon.

Bro. Maroon was named Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church, Belmont, Mississippi, in 2010, after 38 years of faithful service. At the time of his death, he was pastor of Double Springs Baptist Church of Savannah, Tennessee where he served for the past 13 years.

He was a graduate of Humes High School, Memphis, Tennessee, and Memphis State University from which he graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Of special importance to him was the training he received from a Bible school in Fulton, Mississippi. He lived in the home of Bro. A. M. Overton and was taught by Bro. Overton, his father-in-law M.E. Wright and other pastors in the area. He was ordained as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by Hollywood Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee.

Pastor Maroon also served at Oak Grove Baptist Church of Martin, Tennessee, Franklin Road Baptist Church of Memphis, Tennesee, First Baptist Church of Shannon, Mississippi, Emmanuel Baptist Church of Starkville, Mississippi, Red Bud Baptist Church of Dennis, Mississippi, and Harmony Baptist Church of Amory, Mississippi.

He was a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather, caring pastor and teacher and faithful friend to many everywhere he served.

Rev. Maroon is survived by his wife of 29 years, Fae (Priddy) Ross Maroon, Belmont, MS and her son, Thomas “Tommy” Ross, Jr.; two sons: Jack Edward “Tad” Maroon, Jr. and wife, Maria (Dorman) of Crisfield, MD and Mark Loren Maroon and wife, Lynn (Moore) Maroon of Belmont, MS; one daughter: Karis Rebecca (Maroon) Vernon and husband, Daniel “Danny” Vernon of Southaven, MS; six grandchildren: Tiffany (Ross) Carr and husband, Dr. Christopher Carr of Dallas, Tx, Lauren Vernon and Jack Vernon of Southaven, MS, Daniel Vernon and wife, Ally (Brawner) Vernon of Anchorage, AK, John Mark Maroon and wife, Caitlyn (Stanfield) Maroon and Claire Maroon of Belmont, MS and two great-grandchildren: Julie and Frances “Francie” Carr of Dallas, TX.

Along with his parents, Pastor Maroon was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Lourie (Wright) Maroon, sisters, Ruby (Maroon) Court and Dorothy Maroon and brothers, James (J.E.), William (Bud), Charles and Robert.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 8, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Belmont, Mississippi. Rev. Ray Burks will officiate. A viewing will be Thursday, June 7, from 5-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Belmont. Interment will be in Belmont City Cemetery in Belmont. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Grandsons and deacons will serve as pallbearers: John Mark Maroon, Daniel Vernon, Jack Vernon, Jerry McAnally, Steve McAnally, Terrell Pearson, Phil Byram, Mark Henry and Edwin Bolding.
