The Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge states that he died or went missing on 2 August 1944 at Speja, about 28 kilometres north-west of Tiraspol whereas his Sterbebild gives his place of death as Jassy [Iași], Romania on 13 August 1944.
