Brother of Fred Taylor and Emerine Taylor of Hendricks County, IN; mother or foster mother was Lydia E. Taylor. Father unknown. He lived most of his life in Hendricks County, and later moved to Terre Haute, IN around 1902. He worked for several railroads during a twenty-year period. Killed in a tragic railroad accident near Indianapolis, IN on the day before he was due to retire. Although the sloppy death certificate lists him as "Wm. H. Taylor," Danville, IN newspapers verified that the man involved in the incident was the same Thomas Taylor who had been a long-time resident of that county. The coroner's report identifies him as "Thomas H. Taylor." This is the same name he had begun using in the Terre Haute City Directories of the time. At the time of his death it appears he was living with Della L. Tomlinson Bly.
