Survived by his wife of 54 years, Gail and their children, Michelle (Ty) Massengale of Greeley, CO and Boyd Brookhart of Bailey, CO. Also survived by his grandchildren, Andrew Holmberg of Prescott, AZ, Brianne Massengale and Austin Massengale, both of Greeley, his brother, Donald (Marie) Brookhart of Old Hill, CO and sister-in-law, Linda Brookhart of Boulder, CO. Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Irene and brother, Clifford Brookhart.
Byron grew up in Lamar, CO. He graduated from high school and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Northern Colorado. While in Greeley, he met and married his wife, Gail (Blietz). He was a well-loved teacher at Central High School in Aurora, CO. He taught Biology and Physical Education and coached basketball, girls and boys track and football.
A memorial service for family will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Aurora. Final Resting Place will be at Parker Cemetery in Parker.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Byron's name be made to: Bethel Lutheran Church, for the Pastor's Discretionary Fund for People in Need, 1450 Airport Blvd., Aurora, CO 80011.
