He enlisted in Co. F, 2nd Minnesota Infantry 1861-1865, as a Private.
He came to America in 1851 when a young man of 18 years, located in Minnesota, and from which state he enlisted in the Civil War (War of the Rebellion) July 30, 1861. He was honorably discharged in 1865, He was made a Corporal during his service to his country.
He was married to Emily LaRue at Audubon, Iowa, in Sept. 1873.
Survivors are his widow, but no children of their own. There were 4 stepchildren, Wm. & Clem LeBar of Grand Rapids, Mi.; Mrs. Josie Olney of Nashville, Tn.; and Mrs. Emma Adams of Pensacola, Florida.
He had been an active member of the G.A.R. since its organization. G.A.R. is Grand Army of the Republic.
