Miss Fleming Has Passed Beyond
Former Elk Township Citizen Dies In Manchester November 17th, 1915

Mary Jane Fleing was born September 28th, 184 in Washington County Pennsylvania, and died at the home of her sister Mrs. Nancy A. Wiltse at Manchester, Iowa, November 17th, 1915, aged 71 years and 19 days. Her illness extended over a period of ten months.

She came west with her parents and settled in Elk Township, Clayton County, Iowa, in 1843, residing in Clayton County until the death of her parents. She then made her home with her older sister, Mrs. Eliza A. Rizer, until the latter's death in 1895, since which time she has made her home with her sister, Mrs. Nancy A. Wiltse, of Manchester, Iowa, rsiding for a few yeare near Strawberry Point, Iowa.

She leaves to mourn her death one sister, Mrs. Wiltse, and two brothers, William Fleming of Greeley and George W. Fleming of Edgewood, Iowa, beside a number of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

The deceased expressed her faith and belief in God over thirty years ago and has lived true to that faith ever since. The last few days of her lkife she talked to her brothers and sister about passing away and had no fear of death as she expected to go and meet the loved one who have gone on before her. During all her illness she bore it with a great patience never once complaining.

The funeral services were held Friday, November 19th, conducted by Rev.Hudson, pastor of the Methodist Church at Manchester. A short prayer service was held at the home and later was concluded at the Central Methodist Church east of Edgewood, where the sermon was delivered by Rev. Hudson. Interment took place at Asbury Cemetery, near her old home. The bereaved brothers and sister and other relatives have the sympathy of all in their sorrow.
