"Truman Steele, who served in the War of 1812, was born in Connecticut in 1786, and about 1810 removed to Ellisburgh. He married Eliza, daughter of Lemuel and Sarah (Brigham) Tabor, and reared children as follows: Sally (Mrs. A. Price/Pierce), who died in 1885; Truman, who died in infancy; Huldah (Mrs. Aaron Butler), who died in this town; James I., who died in 1865; and Roswell M. born August 4, 1823, and was reared upon a farm. He married Polly A., daughter of Alvah and Asenath (Pool) Tubbs, in 1850."
