David Wesley Harris, age 70, passed away on May 21st, 2018 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, North Carolina. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on July 1, 1947, to Wesley and Catherine Boothe Harris. They spent many years in Darmstadt, Zweibrucken and Frankfurt, Germany, where David excelled in school and sports, and became an Eagle Scout at the age of 12. He also graduated from Frankfurt American High School in 1965.
David attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, where he majored in Chemistry and minored in Math. He was also initiated into Kappa Sigma fraternity, where he made friends he still kept in contact with until his health prevented him from doing so. While in college, he met Judy Brooks, and they were married August 19, 1967. David and Judy had three children, Brooke, Jeremy, and Courtney. David received his B.S. in Chemistry in 1970, and was hired as a chemist for Celanese Chemical Company, but soon after was drafted by the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland, for the duration of his tour of duty. While in the Army, he worked as a chemist in a cancer research lab.
Upon returning to civilian life in Kingsville, David resumed his career with Celanese, where he rose quickly and contributed several patents which were of great benefit to the company. He was always very active in the company “family,” playing golf and enjoying the company of fellow workers at every plant where he worked. He would eventually hold positions at the plants in Bishop, Texas, in Pampa, Texas, and in Coventry, Rhode Island, where he was Operations Manager of the plant. His final move was to the Charlotte, North Carolina area, where illness necessitated his early retirement. On May 9th, 1993, David married Rose Goulart. He loved his family, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Frio River.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Colonel Wesley Harris and Catherine Harris. He is survived by his wife, Rose, of Lake Wylie; his sister Carol Flores and brother Robert (Bob) Harris, both of San Antonio; daughter Brooke (David) Dlabaja and son Jeremy Harris, of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter Courtney (Nathan) Doty, of San Antonio; step-daughter Tara (James) Bryant, of Rock Hill; grandchildren Hailey and Megan Dlabaja, of Corpus Christi; Jackson, Emma and Katherine Doty, of San Antonio; Eden Grace Bryant, of Rock Hill; and great-granddaughter Madelynn Orban, of Corpus Christi. He is also survived by nephews Michael Munsell, of Austin, Texas, and Clint (Allyson) Munsell, of Boerne, Texas, as well as niece Catherine (David) McTiernan, of Los Angeles, California.
