History of Greenup County (Kentucky)

Hezekiah Lyons was born October 1, 1776, in Washington County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Samuel Lyons, whose father was Daniel Lyons, both of whom came to Kentucky in 1776, with the Virginia and other families (Ref. Collins' History of Kentucky). Samuel and Daniel Lyons were in the Revolutionary War and were paid off at Fort Pitt, Pennsylvania. Hezekiah Lyons fought in the War of 1812 with Mad Anthony Wayne against Tecumseh at the Battle of Fallen Timber in 1792. He was married to Cassandra Virgin, born in 1783, daughter of Reason Virgin, and they became residents of Greenup.
Among the fourteen children of Hezekiah and Cassandra Virgin Lyons were Reason (Resin), who was born in 1803 and died in 1842; Greenup, born and died in 1807; Hezekiah, Jr., born in 1811; Mary Susan, born in 1816; Eli; Washington; and Remembrance. Rezin Lyons married Elizabeth Pugh and lived at Oldtown. Hezekiah, Jr., went to Missouri and he has many descendants there. He is buried at Edina, Missouri. Mary Susan married John Lionbarger and they lived in Portsmouth.
The children of Rezin and Elizabeth Pugh Lyons were Caroline, who married William Lloyd Gray (see Gray family); Ann, who married William Archer Womack (see Womack family); Cassandra (Cassie), who married John W. Kouns (see Kouns family); Mary Kerin, who married Samuel Griffith Jones; Carilla and Rezin Virgin, deceased.
