Born in Emporia, she was the daughter of Robert and Henretta (Harris) Jones.
Alpharetta was a devout Christian and she served on the usher board at New Bethel Baptist Church and Cavalier Manor's Senior Citizen Committee in Portsmouth.
She had a heart for people, putting others first before her own needs; while she did not have any children, she helped raise more than three generations of relatives giving a new meaning to the title, "a virtuous woman."
Predeceased by her husband, George W. Cuffee.
Survived by nieces, Helen Harris and Pricilla C. Tennyson; nephews, Willie L. Cuffee, Anderson Benson, Melvin Harris, Jimmie Harris, Larry Harris, Ronald Harris and Retired Col. Michael Harris; cousin, John Taylor; a host of great-nieces, -nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held June 26, in New Bethel Baptist Church in Portsmouth with Bishop James M. Whitaker presiding. She will be buried in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth.
