Ralph (Ray ) Sutherland, 71, of 315 North Goble street, Newton, was found dead in the JasperCounty Jail Friday evening a short time after being placed in the county jail.

Although he had been under a doctor's care, his death was considered rather sudden. An inquest will be held by Jasper county coroner James Flagg, it was reported.

Funeral services were held at the Flagg - Buchanan Funeral Home at Newton with Brother Charles Johnson in charge. Burial was at Aten cemetery, Hidalgo.

The deceased was born September 11, 1898 in Jasper county. He was a retired employee of the Michigan Central railroad and had lived In Newton in recent years.

Two nieces are his only survivors.
