Mrs. Pauline Adeline Canipe Cody, 85, of 2708 W. N.C. 10, Newton, died Sunday, April 15, 2007.

Her funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Crowell Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Wayne Ratcliffe and Joe Canipe officiating. Her body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight, Monday, at Warlick Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Mrs. Cody was born in Cleveland County and was the daughter of the late Alvin H. and Minnie Fisher Canipe.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, Blair Elliotte Cody, the love of her life, whom she married Aug. 7, 1943.

Also preceding her in death was one daughter, Sandy Cody Bumgarner; two brothers, Everette Canipe and Alvin Canipe Jr.; one sister, Lena Mae Canipe; and two infant great-granddaughters, Makayla and Makenzie McCann.

Mrs. Cody worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., Southern Glove Co. in Newton and in the cafeteria at Startown Elementary School in Newton.

After retirement, she was the world's best baby sitter, caring for several great-grandchildren until she was diagnosed with cancer almost two years ago. She was a member of Crowell Memorial United Methodist Church in Lincolnton, where she was a faithful servant to God and to others.

She is survived by two sons, Blair E. Cody Jr. of Newton and Jerry R. Cody and daughter-in-law, Treva A. Cody, of Taylorsville; one daughter, Barbara C. Leatherman and son-in-law, Michael A Leatherman, of Newton; one son-in-law, Dennis Bumgarner of Newton; three brothers, Herman Canipe Sr. and Helen of Matthews, Dwight Canipe and wife, Deannie, of Newton and Bob Canipe of Claremont and Nancy; two sisters, Polly C. McSwain and husband, Joe, of Rock Hill, S.C., and Katherine Udell "Shorty" Martin and husband, Wilson, of Maiden; grandchildren, Michaele and Cameron Shugart, Mike Leatherman, Kerry and Ryan Withers, Blair "Tripp" Cody III, Cheri and Mark Hudson, Deanne and Todd Morrow, Catherine and Jeff Barnes, Sonya and Shawn Hartley and Britt and Mindy Cody; great-grandchildren, Carmyn Shugart, Alaina and Reid Withers, Emma and Colin Hudson, Heidi Morrow, Raegan and Cloey Barnes, Cody Hartley and Ashlyn Cody; two stepgrandchildren, Tracie and Scott Shoemaker; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Nicole Morrow and Taylor Hartley; and numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
