Katherine Udell Canipe Martin, age 80, of Abernethy Laurels in Newton, and formerly of 6487 Startown Road in Maiden, died on Monday, February 17, 2014.

Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2014, at Marvin United Methodist Church with Rev. James Tate officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. on Friday.

Katherine was born October 27, 1933, in Catawba County to the late Alvin H. and Minnie Katherine Fisher Canipe.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers Alvin Canipe, Jr. and Bobby D. Canipe, and a sister Pauline Cody. She worked in furniture manufacturing.

She is survived by her husband, Wilson C. Martin, Sr. of the home; son, Wilson C. Martin, Jr. of Maiden; daughter-in-law, Janice Summerville Martin of Mooresville; two brothers Herman Canipe of Matthews and Dwight Canipe of Maiden; one sister, Polly McSwain of Rock Hill, SC; and two grandchildren, Alexa Katheryne Martin and Trent Calvin Martin.
