Novella was born in Ashland, Schuylkill county, Pennsylvania. Her parents were George Staehle, a baker, and Anna Jane Kiehl. Anna had sisters Lavinia and Goldie. She was baptized at St. James English Evangelical Lutheran Church January 30, 1919. In 1950, she married Raphael Robinson. Novella was a registered nurse and lived "at 33rd and 3rd" in Brooklyn. Her family said that she got sick from treating patients. She died at St. Vincent Medical Center on Staten Island, NY.
