Our loving mother, Thelma L. Smith, 90, of Anderson, passed away April 13, 2007, after an extended illness, to be with her husband, Robert W., and son, Robert Jr. She will be sadly missed and her memories will be cherished forever.

She was born Feb. 19, 1917, in Brownsburg, Ind., the daughter of Guy and Bertha (Brisentine) Amick. She was residing in Tipton and moved to Anderson in 1928.

She graduated from Anderson High School in 1935 and from Anderson Business College.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Breakfast Club and a more than 50-year member of Sigma Chapter of Sigma Beta Sorority. She enjoyed reading, crafting and spending time with family and friends at the lake.

Thelma is survived by her daughter, Karel Gardner of Anderson; a son, Kevin and wife Lisa Smith of Noblesville; two sisters, Doris and husband Dow Roush and Ruthanne Rector; grandchildren, Darren and wife Amie Gardner of Anderson, Dana Gardner of San Diego, Calif., Robert Smith of Tampa, Fla., Stacey and husband Bill Huffman of Anderson, Konner Smith and Griffin Smith, both of Noblesville; great-grandchildren, Addison Gardner, Ava Gardner, Madison Huffman, Gavin Huffman, Zachary Smith, Jordan Smith and Andrew Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her loyal pet, MacKensie.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert W. Smith, who died in 1993; a son, Robert Jr.; her brother, Kenneth Amick; and her sister, Betty Timmons.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, officiated by the Rev. Jennifer Wilson. Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Christian Center or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
