Mable is loved and survived by one daughter, Janet Updike Craft and son-in-law Marion of Hanover, VA, and their daughter, Ashley Cullum (Ashton) of Easton, MD; her daughter-in-law, Anita Updike; her sons, David, Andrew, and Nathan; three great-grandchildren; her brothers, Stewart Burke, Thomas Burke, and William Burke; and her sisters, Weltie Kelly, Peggy Scheetz, Anna Belle Baer, Nancy Mottley, Jean Ann Johnson, and Clara Thompson.
One of 15 children, she was born April 8, 1928 to the late Wilson and Mary Burke in Front Royal, VA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Edwin Grafton Updike III; brothers, Luther Burke and Jackson Burke; and sisters, Frances Beckett, Barbara Baer, and Susan Fischer.
Mable worked as an insurance supervisor at Warren Memorial Hospital and the activity director at Lynn Care Center.
She was a member of the Rivermont Baptist Church.
She was an avid and master gardener, nature lover, and an expert seamstress. She enjoyed making crafts, and loved to travel.
She loved her family and continuously supported the endeavors and activities of her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal, VA. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Sammy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Panorama Memorial Gardens in Strasburg, VA.
Arrangements are being handled by Maddox Funeral Home, Front Royal.
