Mr. Veale was a native of Lewiston, N.C., and the son of the late Ben and Lujeannie Veale. He was an honorary trustee and one of the founders of Bethany Baptist Church.
The 78-year-old Curtis Veale retired from Cargill Grain Co. of Chesapeake after serving 20 years.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Elzenia Veale McDuffy. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Irene Scott Veale; a daughter, Evon Veale Carpenter of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Byron Veale and Christie McDuffy, both of Chesapeake; two brothers, John Veale and Lessie Veale, both of Washington, D.C.; three stepgrandsons, Vincent, Roland and Kevin Carpenter, all of Chesapeake; five adopted daughters, Dr. Carolyn Harrell of Maryland, Sheila Epps, Celestine Davenport, Angela Barber and Patricia Scott, all of Chesapeake; two sons-in-law, Calvin Carpenter and George McDuffy; 12 sisters-in-law, Cynthia Acevedo, Mary Taylor, Sally McCoy, Beatrice Fearing, Evelyn Veale, Jackie Scott, Williemae Scott, Rita Scott, Marie Veale, Josephine Scott and Velma Scott; four brothers-in-law, Hosea Scott, Luther Scott, Robert Scott and Obie Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Veale was also surrounded by some very special friends, special mother and father, Audrey Manley and Pastor Jake Manley, Alma Jackson, Dorothy Brothers-Jones, Raymond Jones, the Rev. and Mrs. Myles Billups Sr., Alma Foot, Deacon Earl Foot and Virginia Harrell.
The homegoing service will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Jake Manley officiating. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Processional service entrusted to Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. The family will assemble at the residence at 12:30 p.m. for the processional.
