A retired self-employed welder, Bill was a member of the Holtville Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and Scottish Rite Bodies. He operated the Bill Smedley and Sons Welding Company in Heber for 17 years before moving to Holtville in 1977. A retired business owner, William Henry "Bill" Smedley, passed away Thursday January 10, 1985 at his residence, 1947 E. Underwood Road, Holtville,CA.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of services, 1 p.m. Monday, January 14, 1985 at Hems Brothers Chapel in El Centro,CA, with the Holtville Masonic Lodge conducting the services.

Burial is at Evergreen Cemetery, El Centro,CA, beside the grave of his wife, Helen, who died in 1982.

A retired self-employed welder, Mr. Smedley, 70, was born in Mineola,Howard County,AR, on January 4, 1915. He operated the Bill Smedley and Sons Welding Co. in Heber for 17 years, moving his business to Holtville in 1977.

He was a member of the Holtville Masonic Lodge, Shriners and the Scottish Rite Bodies and had been active in the Boy Scouts and FFA organizations in the Imperial Valley.

Survivors include sons David Lee and Donald Glen Smedley of Holtville and Bobby Dee Smedley of Fredricksburg,TX; daughters Linda Kay (Smedley-Peck) Bannon of La Mesa,CA, Barbara Faye (Smedley) Tucker of Chattanooga,TN, Karen Sue (Smedley) Gonzales and Charlene Ann Smedley both of El Paso,TX; sisters Maudie Leona (Smedley) Jones of Holtville and Thelma Aree (Smedley) Chievers of Beaumont,CA; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
