AURORA — Lucille Brazda, age 89, of Aurora, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Memorial Community Care.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary, 1404 L Street, Aurora. The Rev. Ron Harris will officiate.

Lucille Louise Brazda, the daughter of Floyd and Cora (Thayer) Maret, was born at Hastings, Neb. on Dec. 6, 1926, and passed away in Aurora, Neb. on Jan. 30, 2016, at the age of 89.

She attended Curtis Country School and graduated from Beaver City High School in 1944. Lucille graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1980.

Lucille worked at the World War II Munitions Depot near Hastings and for Boeing in Seattle. When she returned to Nebraska she worked for Henderson Manufacturing, while living first in Marquette and then Polk. Lucille then went to work at Overland Sand & Gravel located in Stromsburg. She then moved to Omaha and worked for Omaha Steaks for a period of time before relocating to Grand Island. Her final years were spent in Aurora where she could be closer to her family.

Lucille enjoyed flowers, gardening, quilting, doing word puzzles, playing scrabble, and dancing, especially to polkas. She was a saleswoman and loved to sell.

She was preceded in death by her children, Linda Runyan, Donnie Runyan and an infant son; and siblings, Paul Maret, Annie Linner, Bonnie Runyan and Tommy Maret.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two children, Rick (Debbie) Runyan of Clay Center and Kristi (Bob) Eggen of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her four sisters, Genny Hastings of Colorado Springs, Colo., Judy Sonderup of Fullerton, Babe Luthy of Aurora and Peggy Muller of Kentucky; and a brother, Kenny Maret of Grand Island.
