The funeral service for former factory worker Vivian “Snowball” Dowdy of Paris was scheduled at 2 p.m. today at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Chad Wilson, who is a friend of the family, was to officiate, with burial to follow in Bevil Cemetery.

Named as pallbearers were Johnny Whitworth, Tim Parker, Lee, Joey and Josh Hixson and Bret Cook.

Visitation was after 11 a.m. today.

Dowdy, 94, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at Henry County Healthcare Center.

Born Feb. 29, 1916, in Henry County, she was a daughter of the late Asa Carl “A.C.” and Myrtle Porter Hoofman.

She was married on Nov. 23, 1932, to Willie B. Dowdy, who died Dec. 4, 1974.

Dowdy was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. She formerly worked at Holley carburetor plant and Dreshu Shoe Factory, both of Paris. She kept foster children in her home and after retirement operated a day care center out of her home.

She leaves two sisters: Laura B. Hoofman and Madge Conyers, both of Paris; three grandchildren: Debbie (Tim) Parker of Paris, Donna Blakely and special friend Bret Cook of Halls and Chris Dowdy of Spring Hill;

Seven great-grandchildren: Cheyanne, Candi, Timmy and Tommy Parker, all of Paris, Lee and Josh Hixson, both of Halls, and Joey Hixson, who is serving in the U.S. Navy; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Ann Dowdy in 1969; a son, Lee Dale Dowdy on July 21, 2004; a sister, Gladys Hill; and a brother, Thomas Hoofman.
