James Curtis
James Lloyd Curtis 70, of Boise passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 15, 2018.
He was born in Grangeville, ID on June 4, 1947 to Chester and Thelma Curtis. He joined his brothers Randall and Meril and a sister Gayle. After graduating from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1965 he went on to North Idaho Junior College, the University of Idaho, Eastern Washington University, and finally Colorado School of Mines, upon completion he held his degree in Mining Geology.
He proudly served his country in the US Army and Army Reserves where upon leaving as a Master Sergeant. Following his Military Service, he began to pursue his career and passion in the US Forest Service as a Mining Geologist and HazMat Specialist. He retired in 2009 after 31 years at the Forest Service.
In his youth, Jim was in Boy Scouts and was a member of DeMolay International, joining Coeur d'Alene Chapter and going on to become Chapter Dad for MW Wood Chapter in Boise, and finally Chairman of the Advisory Board for Treasure Valley Chapter in Meridian. In 1970 he earned his Chevalier, and the Legion of Honor in 1998. He was a 50-year member of DeMolay. This lead him on to his Masonic Career that began in 1975 when he joined Kootenai Lodge #24. In 1984 he affiliated with Capital City Lodge #93 going on to become Worshipful Master in 1989 and 1990. He was Most Excellent Grand High Priest for Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Idaho from 1998-99, Right Eminent Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Idaho 2000-2001, Most Illustrious Grand Master of the Grand Council of Cryptic Masons for Idaho 2009-2010. He also served as Worshipful Grand Chaplain for the Grand Lodge of Idaho 2009-2010.
He is survived by his loving wife Patricia of 41 years, his daughter Valerie, son Samuel, and his beloved grandson Evan. His brothers Randall (Sharon) of Orofino, Meril (Bobbie) of Great Falls, many nieces and nephews, and their children.
He is preceded in death by his sister Gayle, parents Chester and Thelma. A funeral service was held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Summers Funeral Home – Ustick Chapel in Meridian, ID. Interment will follow at Riverview at the Riverview Cemetery on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:00 am in Coeur d'Alene, ID with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations in Jim's name be made to Treasure Valley Chapter, Order of DeMolay, P.O. Box 364, Meridian, ID 83680
