PIONEER, SUCCUMBS

Wallace Lester (Red) Dixon, 60, farmer, rancher, and oilman, died in a local hospital at 3:30 a.m. today after a long illness. He lived east of the city.

Dixon had been hospitalized in Dallas since September. He was trasferred to a local hospital Tuesday afternoon. He was born January 9, 1894 in Comanche, then in Indian Territory and had come to Duncan in 1925.

He was a member of the board of directors of the Duncan Building and Loan Association. He also was a member of the First Christian Church, the Odd Fellows Lodge of Duncan and the Masonic Lodge at Tussy.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs J R Payne (Lucille); three sons, H R (Ray)Dixon, southeast of city; Lester Dixon, Duncan; Glen Dixon of Graham, Texas and seven grandchildren.

Other survivors are three sisters, Mrs P G Thomas, Mrs Pauline Bushy and Mrs Fannie Riner, all of Pomona, Calif, and four brothers, John, J V and O R, all of Countyline, and Ray, Duncan.

Also surviving is a half-brother, James Dixon of Marlow and the step-mother, Mrs J D Dixon.

The service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church with Roy V Harp, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Duncan Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Rangeley-Holden Funeral Home.

Active bearers will be Roy Ward, Vernon Murphree, Terral Zigler, Fred Cleveland, Carl Ables and Jack Davis.
