Donald L. Brutsman, 96, formerly of 631 Pine Knoll, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Monroe Community Hospital in Rochester.

Born in Canisteo, July 6, 1921, the son of Clarence and Flossie (Alden) Brutsman, he was a lifelong area resident. He joined the US Army and served during World War II from 1943-1945. Donald was retired from Alfred University, and was a longtime member of the Arkport United Methodist Church, and the Arkport American Legion Post #1248. Donald was a devoted family man, and hard worker, known for his jokes and one-liners that always kept you laughing.

He was predeceased by his wife Jessamine Briggs Brutsman on June 27, 2012, whom he married on September 15, 1945, his son Daryl Brutsman, also was predeceased by his parents, and 13 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by 2 sons Dennis (Linda) Brutsman of Fairport, James (Patricia) Brutsman of Kentucky, 4 grandchildren Joseph (Shannon) Brutsman, Andrew (Cassandra) Brutsman, CarieAn Brutsman, and SherrieAn (Larry) Nacke, 3 great grandchildren Finn and Annalee Brutsman, and Summer Nacke, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will be present 12-1:30pm Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, with the Rev. Pam Carey officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
