Albert Dale Dixon, 74, of Holcombe, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls.
Al was born on Jan. 16, 1939, in the Town of Arnold to Dale and Nancy (Kuehn) Dixon. He attended school in Holcombe and graduated in 1957.
After studying business in Milwaukee, he worked as a manager at the corporate headquarters of National Foods. He then requested a transfer to manage the local National Foods store in Ladysmith to be close to family and Bonnie, who became his wife on May 12, 1962.
In 1969, Al and Bonnie moved to Holcombe, where they owned and managed Ray’s Supper Club. In 1973, Al began working at Rusk County Abstract Company of which he later became owner and operator.
They had three children, Cynthia, Dale, and Beth, and Al was a proud and loving father.
Al was active in the Holcombe community helping to found organizations such as the Lake Holcombe Lions Club, Lake Holcombe Education Foundation, and the Lake Holcombe PRIDE Committee. He served on many committees and boards including the Lake Holcombe School Board for more than 40 years and was active in the Holcombe Methodist Church. He was very passionate about the community and school and volunteered many hours on projects such as the 4th of July Fun Fest, the Lions Club Ice Fishing Contests, Taste of the Tundra, and the Lake Holcombe Education Foundation Golf Tournament.
He devoted much of his time to the youth of the community by coaching Little League Baseball and middle school volleyball.
He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Al is survived by his children Cynthia (William) Godin of Prescott, Dale (Cheryl) Dixon of Holcombe and Beth (Wade) Meddaugh of Holcombe; his foster daughter Susan Hillestad of Silver Point, Tenn.; his grandchildren Keith (Xing) Godin, Kyle Godin, Aaron Godin, Justine Bearrows, Ian Dixon, Eliot Dixon, Evan Dixon, Alex Dixon, Josie Dixon, Aubrey Meddaugh and Owen Meddaugh; his sisters Myra Reynolds of Appleton and Ethel (Robert) Carpenter of Greenwood; his brothers John (Gloria) Dixon of Holcombe, William (Kathleen) Dixon of Holcombe and Gary Dixon of Holcombe; his sisters-in-law Carol Bonn of Holcombe, Kay (Duane) Diamond of Cornell, and June Hagen of Cocoa, Fla., as well as many extended family members and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie and his parents.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Holcombe United Methodist Church in Holcombe with Pastor Paul Gregersen officiating. Interment will follow the services in the Holcombe Cemetery.
