HANCOCK - Yvonne (Abbott) Carter, 88, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2018, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on October 20, 1929, to Cecil and Phyllis Abbott in Sullivan, Maine. She met and married Vincent Carter of Hancock in 1947, where they lived all their lives. They were the parents of five children and Yvonne was a stay at home Mom until they were grown, and she then went to work in the bakery department at Hannaford for many years. This was a job she enjoyed, as well as the people she worked with. She was a great cook and we can remember coming home from school, knowing that she would be there and that she had made something good for a "snack."
She attended East Side Baptist Church in Hancock for a time and enjoyed the people there and the fellowship dinners to which she contributed and probably shared and exchanged recipes.
For the past few years, she had been in Residential Care at Courtland in Ellsworth. She was blessed with a wonderful staff of caregivers and a special roommate, Evelyn Snowdeal.
She is survived by her children, Vinson Carter and his wife, Barbara, of Gouldsboro, daughter, Dianne Potter and her husband, Jerry, of Gouldsboro, and Brad Carter and his wife, Debbie, of Hancock; grandchildren, John Carter, Erin Jordan, Adam Carter, Cheri Brooks, Stephanie Scott, Rachel Turner, Miranda Wilson, and Denise Green; great-grandchildren, Damian, Jasmine, Josephine, Axel, Justin, Cody, Kyle, Jedd, Landan, Alyssa, Zoey, Dennis, Carter, Lauren, and Kylie, and one great-great-granddaughter, Hazel. We would also like to include special friends, Bess Carter, and sister-in-law, Ida Woodworth. She will be greatly missed by so many others that it is not possible to remember them all.
She was predeceased by son, Dennis, in 1969; her husband of 51 years, Vincent, in 1998, and by son, Eldred, in 2008. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family on Friday, April 13, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth; service will be Saturday, April 14, at 11 a.m. also at Bragdon-Kelley.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Interment immediately following the service at Riverside Cemetery in Hancock, Maine.
Good night, Mum. Love You. See You Later.
