Raymond Dare Clifton, 88, of 1440 U. S. Highway 64, Columbia, died on Thursday, November 26, 2015 near the Gum Neck Community of Tyrrell County.

Born, July 29, 1927, in Woodbridge, VA, he was the son of the late Raymond Dudley and Vivian Estelle Tacey Clifton. He moved to Tyrrell County in 2012 from Stafford, VA.

Mr. Clifton attended Virginia Military Institute, served in the U. S. Marines during 1945-46 and then graduated from Strayer College and began his accounting practice.

He was extremely active in Lions Club activities in Virginia and was a former District Governor and State Officer. He was instrumental in the Capital Drive and development of Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge, VA when it opened as the first community hospital in that area.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bryan Funeral Service in Columbia.

Surviving are a daughter, Susan M. McRae of Columbia; a grandson, D. Bryan Muthler and wife, Christine of Columbia; three great-grandchildren, Nate, Evie and Ezrah Muthler of Columbia.

Among other family are his former wife, Billie Clifton, her daughter, Teresa and her husband, Brian Chatham, their two sons, Brandon and Corey and great-granddaughter, MacKenzie, all of Fredericksburg, VA.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are requested to be sent to Tyrrell County 4-H, Cooperative Extension Office, P. O. Box 209, Columbia NC 27925.
