Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Holmes was born August 19, 1917, in Erin, Tennessee, to Biddie and Claiborn Averitt. She married Rufus D. “Bud” Holmes on September 30, 1946, in Erin. They lived a short time in Oakland, California, but soon moved to the Texas panhandle, living in White Deer and Kellerville before moving to Pampa in 1955. They later moved to Amarillo in 2014.
Jewel was a checker for Ideal Food Stores in Pampa, retiring in 1982. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and was active in various church groups.
Survivors include a son, Randy Holmes and wife Susan of Mt. Kisco, New York; a grandson, Alex Holmes of Brooklyn, New York; and a granddaughter, Lindsay Holmes of New York, New York.
Jewel was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Holmes in 1976; and her husband, Bud Holmes, on August 8, 2017.
