Ethel was born on February 13, 1938 in Grayson County, Virginia to Carl Eugene and Katie Mae Poe Bobbitt.
She retired from Burlington Industries / Kayser-Roth Hosiery after 30 years of service. After retirement, Ethel continued employment with Felice Hosiery.
She was a member of Welcome Door Baptist Church for over 40 years and loved her church family. Ethel was very dedicated to her own family, caring for her husband during his illness and always putting the needs of others before herself.
In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Carl Denton Royal; a sister, Ruby Bobbitt; and four brothers, Boyd, Jim, Joe and Richard Bobbitt.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Taylor (Charlie); her son, Michael Royal (Susan); five grandchildren, Julie, Katie, Bradley, Brian and Mary; 11 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Clinton Bobbitt (Berline) and Willie Bobbitt.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Welcome Door Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Taylor and Rev. Roger Pinnix officiating.
Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 6, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
