Born Aug. 7, 1922, in Greencastle, Pa., he was the son of the late John W. and Catherine Ketterman Carey.
He retired in 1989 from DeRose Industries, where he had worked as a cabinet setter.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Open Door Church in Chambersburg.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a former member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche G. Herdman Carey, whom he married March 13, 1946; one daughter, Sonja Lawson of Lynchburg, Va.; two sons, Charles Carey Jr. of Waynesboro, Pa. and John Carey of Chambersburg; one sister, Charlotte Straley of Chambersburg; one brother, James Carey Sr. of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances McClure and Mary Eschelman; and five brothers, George Carey, LeRoy Carey, Joseph Carey, Howard Carey and Harry Carey.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Open Door Church in Chambersburg. Pastor Mike Sanders will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Open Door Church, 600 Miller St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
