Garry G. Porter helped to defend his country by serving in the Navy during World War II on the USS Ponaganset. He was a life-time member of V.F.W. 9127. After the war, he settled into a career as a carpenter, and was a 65 year member of Carpenters Local 106. Garry will be greatly missed and always remembered for his sense of humor and infectious laugh.
Garry G. Porter, age 90, of Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on March 7, 2007 at the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife (of 69 years), Pauline, sons: Larry (Marge), Richard (Dorotha), Daniel (Carla), daughters: Sue Lyle (Ralph), Kay Stanfill (Mike). Seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
