Merck Mary South, was the daughter of John Jackson South (#103814745) and Elizabeth Ann McKee South (#103814778). Her actual full name is Margaret America South. On the WWI draft for James Lewis Andrews, she is listed as Americus Andrews. She was known as "Merck".

There is a discrepancy about her burial. In a handwritten note dated 2014, by a relative who states that Margaret is her grandmother Ruth's mother, Merck is buried in the New Hope Cemetery in Toccoa, Stephens County, GA. However, here she sits with a matching photo to hers in the Clarks Creek Cemetery, Martin, Franklin Co., GA where I took it on 03 Mar 2018. She also states that her great grandmother's body was carried by train from Macon (Bibb Co., GA) to Toccoa so that she could be buried by her toddler, Ralph, who died. There is a sentence at the end of the note that states this: "relatives wondered why the baby that died was buried in Macon and not brought to Toccoa to be buried by his mother Margaret." I have looked on the FAG page for the New Hope Cemetery, she is not buried there as an Andrews or South. James Lewis is buried there sharing a marker with Nezzie Verner his 2nd wife.

Well, she is buried by Ralph, and his marker is one step to the right from hers in the Clarks Creek Cemetery in Martin, Franklin Co., GA at the very front of the cemetery at the edge of the sloping hill to the right of the driveway as you enter the church parking lot. Ralph's marker is quite old but hers is very new. I am very confused.

It was quite a shock to find it here because it was not on my list to look here and in walking the entire cemetery, I located them, along with some others who were also unexpected.

She was married to Lewis James Andrews (1883-1941). They had the following children:

Ralph, b. 06 Sep 1900 d. 15 May 1903
Ruth
Fred
Boyd
Grant, b. 17 Nov 1917 Twiggs Co., GA: d. 20 Jul 1988
Betty (Could be Elizabeth, who went by Aunt Bet)
Margaret

After her death, James went back to Oglethorpe, GA in 1923 and lived in the Salem Neighborhood. He then returned to his "boyhood home" in 1934. Sometime during this time he married Nezzie Verner (1900-1972). According to the obituary, he died at age 58 in his home near Toccoa, Stephens Co., GA. So he moved back before he died.
