The many documents concerning the husband of Mary Chew spell his given name and his surname in several different ways. His tombstone spells his name as Balaam Osbourn but I am unsure if that is correct. His tombstone states that he was born on 02 May 1792 and died on 23 Aug 1864. In this bio I will use the name found on that particular document. Thus, Mary Chew married Balam Osborn on 27 Oct 1815 at Loudoun Co., VA.

The 07 Aug 1820 US Census of Leesburg, Loudoun Co., VA enumerated the household of Balaam Osborne, a farmer whose age range was 16 thru 25 but according to his tombstone he was actually 28 Y/O. His wife's, Mary, age range was also 16 thru 25; her actual age was 21 Y/O. Also living in the household were 2 females under 10 Y/O.

The 1830 US Census of Snickersville, Loudoun Co., VA enumerated the household of Baalam Osburn in the 30-39 year range; actual age 38 Y/O. His wife's, Mary, age range was 20-29; her actual age was 31 Y/O. Also living in the household were: one male (5-9); one male (10-14); one female (Under 5); and 2 females (10-14).

The 1840 US Census of Jonah Hood, Loudoun Co., VA enumerated the household of Baalam Osburne, a farmer, in the 40-49 year range; actual age 48 Y/O. His wife's, Mary, age range was 40-49; her actual age was 41 Y/O. Also living in the household were: one male (15-19); one female (10-14; and two females (20-29).

The 1850 US Census of District 28, Jefferson Co., VA enumerated the household of 58 Y/O Balaam Osburn, a farmer born in VA, and his 50 Y/O wife, Mary, (Chew) Osburn, also born in VA. Also living in the household were their children: 33 Y/O Adeline Osburn, born in VA; 29 Y/O Franklin Osburn, a merchant born in VA; and 24 Y/O Elizabeth Osburn, born in VA. Surprisingly, Balaam's real estate in 1850 was valued at $15,000.

The 1860 US Census of Charlestown, Jefferson Co., VA enumerated the household of 68 Y/O Balaam Osburn, a farmer born in VA, and his 60 Y/O wife, Mary (Chew) Osburn, also born in VA. Also living in the household was their 42 Y/O daughter, Adeline Osburn, born in VA. Balaam's real estate in 1860 was valued at $18,000.
