Mass of Christian burial for David Joseph Heston, 77, rural Oskaloosa, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Perry. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Perry.
Mr. Heston died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996, at his home.
He was born Nov. 11, 1919, in Belvue, the son of Samuel N. and Ethalinda George Heston.
He had lived in the Oskaloosa area since 1949.
Mr. Heston was a dairy farmer in the Oskaloosa area for 30 years and had worked as a carpenter for 28 years. He retired in February 1987.
He was a 25-year 4-H leader for the Fairview 4-H Club. He was instrumental in the organization of the Fairview Township Fire Department and served as assistant fire chief for 18 years.
Mr. Heston served on the board of education for the Ozawkie, Oskaloosa and Lowry school districts.
He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Perry.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from May 1944 to November 1945.
He married LaVerne M. Seifert on Dec. 28, 1939, at St. Marys. She died on Feb. 23, 1987. A son, Arthur David, and three grandchildren also died.
Survivors include six sons, Joseph, Meriden, and Dale, Roy, Duane, John and Ronnie Heston, all of Oskaloosa; four daughters, Maxine Buttram, Joan Pentlin, Rhonda Robbins and Gaylene Morgison, all of Oskaloosa; a brother, Carl O., Topeka; a sister, Pearl Timmons, Topeka; 27 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
