Maria Guggenbickler was old enough to remember leaving Germany and the ship that transported the family across the Atlantic Ocean to New York harbor and then the train ride to Oregon. Where after much study the parent's had already chosen the Saint Louis area where already existed a German community and their catholic Church. After that came all the hard work of creating a dairy farm out of an untamed forest area near Saint Louis, Marion, Oregon. After the parent's property was developed into a dairy it was all lost because their parents had not learned to read and write, English. Swindled: The land was not purchased but rented. The farm was a great family lost. The local sheriff forced them all to leave the farm they had built with blood, sweat and tears.

The father came from a dairy farm in Germany that had been owned by, Guggenbickler's since the 1300's. It still exists as an active dairy farm today. It has several residences on it. The government has placed an official sign seen there today. Some of the U. S. Guggenbickler family have visited with their German relatives in recent years.
