"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain." Revelation 21:4

Daughter of Mr. L. C. Gay and Corrie B. O'Neal Gay.

Left to cherish her fond memories are her devoted and loving husband of 46 years, Robert N. Anthony, III of Charlottesville, Virginia; four brothers, William Holly of New Haven, Connecticut, Terry Chavous of North Augusta, South Carolina, Anthony Chavous of Chicago, Illinois, and Kenneth Chavous, Williston, South Carolina; a sister, Rosemary C. Hendrix of Atlanta, Georgia; her favorite aunts and uncle, Clarice Garrett, Katherine Garret, and Harvey Garret, all of Barnwell County, South Carolina; five God Children, a devoted cousin, Sylvia Woodfolk of Charlottesville, Virginia; two lifelong devoted friends, Robert Evelyn and Lulu Evelyn of Boston, Massachusetts; three dear friends, Ben Carr, Veronica Jones of Charlottesville, Virginia, and the Reverend Mildred Brown of Virginia Beach, Virginia, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She will also be dearly missed by her two loving dogs, "Coco" and "Sparky".

Carolyn became a Christian as a very young girl and began her work in Christ's Kingdom in Second Baptist Church, Barnwell County, South Carolina. She was a faithful and ardent worker for many years for Pilgrim Baptist Church, Charlottesville, Virginia, where she served for many years as church clerk and Deaconess. She remained a faithful and devoted member until her death. Today we are silent, to pay tribute to a person who has lived among us as "one who went about doing good" and who always put Christ first in everything she did. During her months of illness she leaned heavily on the Lord. Calling upon Him to help bear the pain when many times she could have called upon her loved ones, but refused to do so, knowing they were already tired and over-burdened. Carolyn worked in the Academics Departments of the University of Virginia for thirty years. For eighteen years she served as the Administrative Assistant for the UpWard Bound Program; the other years she work for the Student Health Department and the Law School. In the past she worked for Harvard University, Boston Massachusetts where she met the love of her life Robert N. Anthony. In the State of Virginia she served very diligently in many capacities.

Carolyn was a lovable character, a person everyone chose to have as a friend and willing to be a friend to all. She never pushed herself forward, but always stayed in the background working and praying and doing whatever she was called upon to do. She loved to fish, garden, travel, sing, play piano, and have a good time with her family and friends. Her collection items were antique furniture, clowns, and turtles. When she wasn't doing any of those things she spent much time with her dogs.

The family received friends at Piedmont Baptist Church, 596 Half Mile Branch Road, Crozet, Virginia, with a celebration of Carolyn’s life following with Pastor Doyle Thomas officiating. McClenny Funeral Service Inc, 600 Henry Avenue, Charlottesville, VA.
