Mrs. Olive Gerard Dies at Age 98
Special to the Journal Gazette CHARLESTON, Ill. Mrs. Olive Hite Gerard, 98-year-old local resident, died about 2 a.m. today in Community Hospital, where she had been a patient since May 19. Prior to that she had been receiving care in the Rennels Nursing Home. She entered the nursing home on Feb. 13, 1955.
The body is in the Clark funeral home. Arrangements are incomplete.
Mrs. Gerard was born in Rushville, Ind., Feb. 6, 1860, a daughter of William and Eliza Jane Hite. A brother, Dr. O. E. Hite died a few weeks ago. Mrs. Gerard was twice married. Following the death of her first husband, Joseph Curd, she married Charles Gerard, who also preceded her in death. She had lived In Charleston since about 1900 coming here from Shelbyville.
For a number of years she was employed as a seamstress. She was a member of the Christian Church and Order of Eastern Star. She leaves a nephew, Dr. William K. Hite, Charleston: two nieces, Mrs. Grace Simpson, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dr. Katherine Hite of New York City.
